Dreambook

Dreambook for educators

A character. A setting. A spark of an idea. Children can help shape an illustrated story before they can type or write it themselves.

Dreambook brings guided choices, pictures and narration together, with child safety at the heart of the experience.

Jennifer leads a classroom story lesson while six Dreambook friends follow along, each with an iPad.

An experience
that fits your class.

Set the age in each child’s profile. Dreambook adapts the story level and experience to suit the ages in your classroom.

One story, many voices

Bring a story to life together.

Here’s one way to turn a story into a classroom activity. Choose, listen, wonder and retell, with questions you can adapt to your group.

  1. Make a choice together

Invite children to choose a character, a setting and a tone. Let them point, take turns or explain their choice.

“Who should our story be about?”

  2. Look and listen

Review the generated story before sharing it. Read aloud yourself or use a built-in narrator, with the group looking at the pictures and text.

“What do you notice on this page?”

  3. Leave room for wondering

Make space between pages for predictions, unfamiliar words and different points of view. Ask children to explain their thinking.

“What might happen next? What makes you think so?”

  4. Tell it in their own way

Invite children to retell the beginning, middle and end, draw a favourite moment or act out a scene away from the screen.

“How would you tell this story to a friend?”

Why we care

Built with a teacher’s curiosity.

Our founder, Dave, taught English in Japan for eight years. Parent research and teacher interviews helped inform Dreambook’s design. At its heart is a lesson from his own classroom: learning can feel like play.

When children make choices, stretch their imagination and create something they can read, share and feel proud of, they discover the pleasure of learning for themselves. That love of learning matters as much as any single lesson. It is a feeling we want them to carry into the next book, the next question and the years ahead.

A few classroom questions.

Can I use a family subscription with my class?

You can explore Dreambook with a family subscription. For classroom use, we recommend an educator plan designed around your school’s needs, group size and devices. Contact us about educator plans so we can put together the right setup for you.

Are school subscriptions available?

Yes. We create educator plans on a case-by-case basis, shaped around each school and classroom. Tell us what you need and we’ll work with you on a plan that fits.

Would children need their own accounts?

No. The educator has an account and gives children a code to connect to it. Children use that code to access their reading experience, without creating a separate login. The educator manages profiles, settings and account decisions.

Could children record their own narrator voices?

Yes, with consent from a parent or guardian before a child’s voice is recorded or added. We can work with your school to help streamline the consent request, alongside any permission process you already use for educational apps.

Are story links private to a class?

Children do not have sharing controls in their classroom reading experience. The educator decides if and how a story is shared. If a parent would like to read a story their child made at school, the educator can arrange to send it to them.

What should I include in an enquiry?

Your school and country, the children’s age range, approximate group size, how often you would use it and whether you envisage a shared iPad or individual devices. Please leave out children’s names, recordings and other personal information.
